VDM and WebReports 2026.10.12: More Reliable Reporting Workflows
The October 12 release focuses on the everyday work behind dependable reporting: keeping query results consistent between VDM and WebReports, handling longer database requests, and improving scheduled-job bookkeeping.
For teams that build reports in VDM and deliver them through WebReports, these changes help keep the desktop and browser parts of the workflow working together.
Keep query data types consistent
When VDM retrieves query results through WebReports, a column's type matters as much as its values. A numeric column containing only empty values still needs to behave like a numeric column, and a decimal amount needs to retain its precision.
VDM now reads the optional column-schema information supplied by WebReports and rebuilds typed result tables before loading the rows. This preserves numeric columns with no populated values, decimal values, and column definitions when a query returns no rows. The existing option to replace numeric nulls remains available.
Older WebReports servers that do not supply this information continue to use the existing result-reading behavior. Updating both applications lets teams use the shared schema support.
Give longer database requests time to finish
The ACE connection changes in VDM and WebReports remove the fixed request and read/write timeouts from those connection paths. This addresses requests that need more time to return from the database.
The change concerns ACE communication; it does not change the timeouts for every database provider or guarantee that an underlying connection will remain available indefinitely.
Improve scheduling and administration
VDM also improves failure bookkeeping for Master Jobs in the calendar workflow, helping the Scheduler handle a failed execution without a secondary bookkeeping error.
The accompanying WebReports development adds several administration improvements:
- Microsoft Graph email delivery: administrators can choose Graph alongside the existing SMTP option in the Email Profile. Graph requires the organization's Microsoft tenant and application permissions to be configured.
- Earlier permission feedback: Available Reports checks launch permissions before opening the parameter wizard for view, download, and queue actions.
- SQL Server index maintenance: database maintenance includes an index-defragmentation step for WebReports installations using SQL Server.
- Clearer role identification: icons distinguish built-in, extension, and custom roles.
Plan your update
If your workflow uses VDM with WebReports connections, review the desktop and server updates together. Test your usual queries, scheduled jobs, and email configuration in your organization's test environment before updating production.
