VDM and WebReports 2026.10.28: Bridgit Design and Connected Workflows

The October 28 VDM release expands how teams build reports and dashboards with Bridgit, connect compatible AI assistants to VDM, and prepare reports for use in WebReports. It also improves Excel exports and the conversations that guide report development.

Design Finished Reports and dashboards with Bridgit

Bridgit is now available inside Finished Reports Designer and Visualize Designer. Use typed requests or Talk to Bridgit to describe the report or dashboard you need, then continue the conversation to refine it.

Finished Reports work can include layout, calculated fields, summaries, and charts. Reference documents and images can guide a design, and saved design requirements remain available for later edits. Visualize requests can work with dashboard filters, parameters, formatting, and calculations.

As a design develops, Bridgit shows the current task, reviews rendered results, and applies validated changes. Follow-up design requests can wait in order while work continues. You can also start a new Designer conversation while keeping the current report or dashboard and query open.

Model and reasoning-effort settings are available separately for Finished Reports Designer and Visualize Designer, allowing each experience to be configured for its work.

Build with WebReports in mind

For teams that deliver Finished Reports through WebReports, the report's controls and calculations need to work beyond the desktop designer.

Bridgit favors native charts, calculated fields, and report expressions for reports intended for both VDM and WebReports. Before applying a design, it checks for a known desktop-only chart dependency that WebReports does not provide.

These checks help avoid that compatibility problem. Continue to verify the finished report in your WebReports environment, especially when it includes custom scripts, fonts, or external resources.

Connect an AI assistant to VDM

This release includes a preview of VDM's local Model Context Protocol (MCP) integration. Compatible assistants, including Codex and Claude Code, can work with selected VDM connection profiles and native reporting tools while VDM remains open.

Depending on the permissions you enable, a connected assistant can work with queries, Finished Reports, Visualize dashboards, parameters, and Scheduler jobs and appointments. Source-database queries remain read-only. Saving a Scheduler job is separate from scheduling or running it.

Setup is available under VDM Settings, with profile selection, connection status, and copyable agent setup instructions. Share only the profiles needed for the work you want the assistant to perform.

Export and refine with fewer interruptions

Multi Query exports can place tables on separate Excel worksheets with safe, unique table-based names. Column widths are fitted across the data and retained in Excel. Finished Reports improvements also address workbook formatting and page-by-page exports with named worksheets.

Bridgit conversations retain local message timestamps, handle attachments and accompanying text more consistently, and reuse previously pasted values for follow-up query changes. View of Views also fixes duplicate child-view selection.
